The Q-5C is a single-seat, twin-engined, close air support and ground-attack fighter-bomber developed by the Nanchang Aircraft Company of China. Nanchang’s Q-5 series of aircraft are derived from the Shenyang F-6 interceptor, a license-built version of the Soviet Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-19. With its new cone-shaped nose housing powerful ground mapping radar, it resembles the American F-105 Thunderchief, and like the F-105, it is nuclear-capable.

Developed from a pre-war design built as a racing plane, the militarized version brought with it the expected excellent performance inherent in a racing machine built primarily for speed.
